Phrase - Glossary of Terms


A phrase is a group of related words which usually forms part of a sentence.  A phrase does not contain a subject and verb and, consequently, cannot convey a complete thought.  (Note: A clause, on the other hand, does contain a subject and a verb.) 


in the middle of London
swaying in the wind
a large pilot whale
as a result
